Nelson Fowlkes overcame a splintered childhood, adverse social and economic circumstance of inter-city life. As a biochemist, he served a twenty year career in the United States Army Medical Service Corp and retired as a Lt Colonel.
After starting his second career in health care, he achieved success and astounding accomplishments in strategic marketing, planning, and health care administration. His exceptional management skills were masterfully demonstrated when he established and managed nine primary clinics in inter-cities of Los Angeles County. He is the co-author of a Corporate Health Risk Management System that was published in the Journal of Health Care Marketing.
One of his most consequential achievements was the design and creation of a Territorial Management System (TSS), an innovative approach applying traditional risk management to the health of an employee group which the Library of Congress issued a Certificate of Recognition.
Nelson’s childhood dream and lifelong endeavor was to acquire knowledge through education and traveling. Faith, trust in God combined with diligence, self-confidence and perseverance were the under pinning of academic achievements that included graduate degrees in biochemistry and public administration as well as Professional Certificates in Gerontology and Conflict Resolution.
His entrepreneur expression was demonstrated through the creation of Fowlkes Development Group, a healthcare consulting organization that focused on assisting medical centers establish Industrial Health Clinics. Subsequently, he and Mrs. Fowlkes were the founders of a travel agency (PJ’S Travel Connection, LLC) that was dedicated to helping clients obtain exceptional domestic and international travel experiences. They have three grown children, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He now lives the East Bay City of Dublin, California.
